Sustaining the sea and our future

At FirstPoint, sustainability isn’t just a principle, it’s a responsibility. Our four Co-Ops are committed to protecting Langoustine stocks so that future generations of fishermen, families and coastal communities can thrive.

Caught with respect

In partnership with the Marine Institute, we actively participate in scientific surveys and conservation measures. One initiative sees us voluntarily stepping back from fishing on the Porcupine Bank for a five-month period, giving female Langoustines the vital time they need to spawn.

This effort helps the Marine Institute demonstrate that, with careful management and controlled fishing, Langoustine stocks can be protected and strengthened for the future. Our Co-Ops are active members of Fishery Improvement Programmes (FIPs) — industry-led, collaborative initiatives that enhance the sustainability of key species such as Langoustines, Haddock and Hake.

Each programme is independently audited and validated, ensuring genuine progress towards a sustainable future. For our customers, this means a reliable, traceable supply today — without compromising the fishery of tomorrow. Visit www.bim.ie for more details.

Strong seas make strong communities

Our boats and crews live this commitment every day. A sustainable fishery not only safeguards the resource — it sustains coastal jobs and secures long-term prosperity for communities.
